The history of our C-47 and development of the Airbase Arizona. 64 pages black/white and full color.

The C-47 and its many variants were used in all theatres during WWII, and in many roles. Its best-known roles were, of course, to drop paratroopers, tow gliders, and to deliver and drop supplies and resupplies food, ammunition, medical supplies, etc.) to the ground troops. It also performed many other tasks such as flying out the wounded and flying Special Operation covert missions behind enemy lines flying at night and landing on unimproved makeshift landing strips to deliver agents and supplies to Partisans. In the Pacific, for example, the C-47’s helped keep China supplied by flying supplies over the Himalaya Mountains.   (i.e. excerpt from the book)
