The B-17 is a heavy bomber bristling with armament. They earned a deadly reputation and were legendary for their ability to return home after taking brutal poundings.
The B-25 was developed by North American Aviation and used mainly as a low altitude strafe and skip bomber. Nearly 10,000 B-25s were produced and “Maid in the Shade” is one of 34 still flying today.
Gunfighter is one of the world’s most famous P-51s, having appeared on the airshow circuit and providing rides for over 35 years. The aircraft is a P-51 “D” model, serial number 44-73264. Of the approximately 15,000 P-51s produced in WWII, over 8,000 were “D” models. Today, only about 150 airworthy examples of Mustangs exist world-wide in museums, flying or under restoration.
This AT-6, affectionately referred to as ‘Nella, reflecting the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) mascot Fifinella, was flown by the WASP in training classes from mid-1943 until the WASP were disbanded in December 1944.

More about the Flying Legends of Victory Tour

Not everyone can visit the Airbase Arizona Museum for an up-close and personal inspection of our historic warbirds. So, in the summer, we take our World War II planes to the public to fulfill our mission of educating generations about the role of aviation in combat history. The Flying Legends of Victory Tour, starts in May and ends in September. Our flying warbirds travel to cities in the US and Canada.
Keep your eyes to the skies when our B-25 Maid in the Shade and B-17 Sentimental Journey fly overhead to their next destination. And come visit us when we’re in your town. Rides and tours are available, but be sure to book your seat in advance because we’ll only be there for a limited time.
