Honor Flight WWII Veteran in Wenatchee Shares Letters Home
At the end of May, 2017 we began our Flying Legends of Victory tour across the U.S. and into Canada. Our second stop in Wenatchee, Washington was with the B-25 Bomber “Maid in the Shade.” Like all of our stops, on our first day we held a media and veteran honor flight where we had the privilege of hosting veteran Gerald L. Huber, a 994-year-oldWWII Army Air Corp veteran who served in Italy, flying 50 missions as a side gunner on a bomber. His daughter, Gayle, reached out to us in hopes she could surprise him with a mission aboard our B-25 Bomber. Leading up to the flight, Gayle shared a couple of her father’s letters from June 3, 1942 when he was just a civilian worker at Dutch Harbor and just 19 years old at the time.
Following are the letters he wrote home with the facts as he knew them.
