MiG-15bis “ at AZ CAF Musuem

Single-seat, restoration project currently under way (Spring 2008)

Our MIG is a Mikoyan-Gurevich MIG-15bis. Built in Late 1950/early 1951 in Moscow. It is a rare one that actually has a data plate. (MIGs built in the soviet satellite counties did not have data plates, they had the nose numbers painted on at the factory and this served as the identifiers) It was sent to China where it served in the Chinese Air Force until the 1980’s. It was then sold and shipped to America where it was purchased and then donated to the AZ Wing of the CAF.

The history is largely unknown at this time. During restoration the armor for the head rest & back of the seat was found to have stopped large caliber bullets. After further examination, patches were found on the skin of the airplane suggesting from the trajectory the damage could have been received in aerial combat.
